Ragdolls need a loving and low-stress environment. They need places to climb and room to play chase. They need a companion to groom and console themselves with, as well as a playmate. Ragdolls are very social creatures. They will follow you around from room to room, just to be with you. When left alone, they will cry and cry and just do not know what to do with themselves. You might consider a feline companion for your Ragdoll, so that even when you cannot be there, they will have someone to keep them company.
When we bought our kittens, we adopted two at a time. I am so glad we did. Not only did they feel right at home, because their companion was with them, but they ate and drank better and took care of each other. Because they had each other, they had a playmate and the world was not a lonely place. Remember they are companion animals and sensitive to their surroundings. A lonely kitten might stop eating and drinking and grieve because they miss their littermates, mom, aunts, and other pets who they have been with all their lives. Ragdoll kittens do not like to be alone. They love and depend on their animal companions and their people families. If you must leave your kitten for more than a day, you should have someone who can be with them.
Our cats have free reign of the house and you hardly ever see them in a room by themselves. They will migrate from room to room together, looking for you or something to play with. They play together, eat together, and even snuggle up together.
